Erik Curtis

I have found few things that bring me as much satisfaction in life as making things with my hands. There is a excitement in exploring a thought fully and bringing an idea to a tangible reality that is paralleled only in the teaching of the craft I love. My aim to is to bring this child-like excitement to all my work, whether creating or teaching; in my own very small way to make the world a little bit better, if only by making it a little more beautiful.

Erik Curtis – HOW vs WHY: Storytelling is more important than you think

Everyone tells their audience how they do things, such as cutting dovetails or hand planing a board. So how do you stand out in a sea of how? Focus on the why. In this class, Erik will focus on why your design thoughts are so important to the storytelling aspect of engaging content and how it can help you to get more buy in.

Albert Klein – Rejecting the algorithm: building a dedicated audience

Trying to break through in social media for woodworking can seem impossible. The market is oversaturated with folks, and every day it can feel like you’re putting social media gimmicks over your actual woodworking. In this session, Albert will go over how he was able to grow and maintain a dedicated audience without playing to the algorithms of social media. Without trying to rack up likes and follows, he has been able to secure multiple book contracts, partnerships with large companies, speaking engagements, and a predictable revenue stream.

Michael Alm – How to Standout in a Sea of Woodworking Videos

It can be hard to standout when the platforms seem oversaturated with creators and especially woodworkers, but there are a lot of things you can do to make your work more appealing to viewers. In this session we will talk about story telling, concept creation, and building a following. We’ll also focus on how to package a video to optimize viewership, and the common things I see early creators get wrong.

The goal of this session is not to change what you make, how you make it, or who you are as a maker, but to find what makes your practice interesting and tell that story in a way that resonates with others.

Paul Mencel – You’re Not Your Customer

Most makers create content for people just like them—and that’s exactly why it doesn’t convert. In this talk, Paul breaks down the critical mindset shift from “maker-first” content to client-focused messaging that actually drives sales. Drawing from real-world experience scaling a 7-figure custom furniture company, he shares how to attract the right audience, communicate value without competing on price, and turn your social media into a true sales tool—not just a portfolio.

Attendees will walk away with a clear framework for creating content that speaks directly to their ideal client, builds trust, and positions their work as a premium offering in a crowded market.

Group AMA – Ask Me Anything

All 4 panelists will sit down and answer all of your questions on Business, Youtube, social media and whatever woodworking questions you may have.

Who Should Attend?

  • Woodworkers who want to build an online following
  • Makers curious about turning content into a source of income
  • Anyone looking to grow their brand, share their skills, and connect with a wider community
